Just For Fun
Do you like a lighthearted and fun prank? Do you have students that enjoy a good laugh? Are you looking for a way to celebrate April Fool’s Day? Were were always struggling with ways to prank our students in a fun and caring way, and we’ve come up with a few great ones over the past few years. Continue Reading
So many of those store-bought Valentine’s are impersonal, so why not try this punny activity with your students? Now, beware-many students don’t really get puns, so you may have to do some explaining. Continue Reading
Teachers out there know that smell…the new crayon. It’s still perfect. It still has all its paper wrapping and is perfectly pointy. It hasn’t rubbed up against other crayons and gotten dirty. It hasn’t been dropped on the floor, or broken in half or left in the lost and found bin with a bunch of broken crayons. And if you close your eyes and take a whiff of that new crayon, you can still transport yourself back to your childhood. For teachers, the crayon smell is a high. For students, not so much.
We love to eavesdrop on our students for the pure joy of hearing them say something we can post online (usually out of context for a greater laugh). Our students are clever, funny and make the daily grind so worth it.
This year we’ve taken our top ten overheard quotes and are going to tell you the story behind the quote. These ten got the most likes and comments on Instagram in 2016. Be ready to laugh!
Do you want to read more? Check out all of our other overheard quotes and feel free to pass them along to your friends who need a laugh.
Being that it’s the last week of school, it is a good time to have students clean out their desks. I did the same and here are some of the random things I found in my desk this year. (Us ninjas have separate desks, so there’s the possibility of a sequel.) Here are some of the most interesting things I found.
Ninja Note: get more chocolate covered pretzels.
That dreaded time of year has arrived yet again…report cards! It should get easier every year but we are finding that it is getting more difficult. We teach a very well educated demographic of parents who are generally very concerned about the grade 4/5 report card because after all it could change the course of their child’s life right? They read into every comment likes it’s a secret code. Well, in a way they actually have become so. When was the last time you were able to actually say what you mean on the report card? Pull out your tattered thesaurus and get your wordsmithing skills sharpened and get writing. Here are some examples: Continue Reading
It’s almost summer break and there’s so much to do. Between putting this year’s classroom away and planning for the next schoo year, it can feel like there isn’t enough time. The Ninjas have been struggling with time management over the break as we are both trying very hard to balance life and Continue Reading
The Brain Ninjas are TWO YEARS OLD! On May 29, 2014 we officially opened our store. It was nearly two weeks later when we sold our first item and made a whopping $2.16 and from then on we were hooked. Continue Reading
Ninjas are thrifty and we like to reuse as much as possible, so here are our top five ways to reuse your back to school gear and save some money at the same time.
Repurpose your old borders and signs. You probably have some of those old borders or signs that are looking tattered or faded. Try cutting out the little pictures (or better yet have some older students volunteer their time) to reuse. We use these little pictures for all kinds of things: game pieces, name tags, labels and my personal favourite-classroom sign out.
